Unlike any other race in the Northwest United States. This is a true high alpine running experience. The races climb to 8000ft(starting from 2100ft!) above sea level at the top of Angels Staircase, a rough and rocky trail that climbs above treeline to the top of the rocky ridge line that separates the Lake Chelan Watershed from the Methow River Watershed. From the high points of the course you can see Glacier Peak and the surrounding North Cascades Mountains to the West as well as the smaller and older Okanogan Range to the North and East. You'll run through forests of pine, larch and fir trees, alpine meadows, past alpine lakes, along side roaring creeks but other than the 3 miles of dirt forest service road at start and at the finish you won't see a single road or car or any buildings-- this is as remote as it gets!
Due to the remoteness and the difficulty of the 60k course this can't be your first rodeo! Runners must qualify by completing at least two "mountain" 50k races or longer prior to registering for the 60k. There is no longer a requirement to do the 35k but you should still be prepared to run what is possibly one the hardest races you have ever done.
We are excited to have Angels Staircase 60k/35k included in the 2014 US Skyrunner Series. Be sure to check out the offical race video from Project Talaria!

Updates and Reminders
| Hello Everyone Thanks for signing up for the 1st annual Angels Staircase Trail Races! But really you should be thanking me because this is really going to be "one helluva journey"! I really don't think any trail race in the Northwest can compare-- it's the highest race with the high point being at 8,000ft, it's the most remote race with no road crossings for the 25k and 50k and just one short section of dirt road for the 50m, it's got ton's of elevation gain(5000 for the 25k, 9000 for the 50k and 13000 for the 50m), and it's freakin' beautiful! Can you tell that I'm EXCITED?! With all that said I want to update/remind ya'll about some very important stuff:
|
Angels Staircase is the first ever running race in the Chelan Sawtooths Sub Range of the North Cascade Mountains. High above Lake Chelan and the Methow River Valley this stunningly beautiful trail run, with 360 degree views of the three surrounding mountain ranges(Chelan Sawtooths, Okanogans, and the Cascades) and high alpine meadows full of wildflowers in full bloom, goes up to 8000ft making it the highest running race in the State of Washington. This heavenly(thanks to the beauty) and hellish(due to the challenge of the elevation gain and the sometimes rocky trails) race will surely become one of the most popular trail/ultra marathons in the country in short order!
